Discover your M.A.G.I.C. – “C” stands for Character

We value people who possess positive character qualities. In fact, we select friends, our spouse, and even elected officials based largely on quality of character. Positive character qualities have a magical effect, because in living out these qualities, a person can earn our trust, respect, devotion and friendship.

Positive character traits may or may not come through in a first time meeting with someone, but through daily interactions people begin to accurately identify a person’s true character. That is why the people you live and work with know your character the best. This area of magic is one all people can possess and one that can and should continually be improved upon.

In The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People (chapter 1), Steven Covey mentions something that he learned about in his studies of United States literature called the Character Ethic. Covey claims “The Character Ethic taught that there are basic principles of effective living, and that people can only experience true success and enduring happiness as they learn and integrate these principles into their basic character.”

What is Covey claiming in light of the Character Ethic? That quality of character is not optional, but foundational in the pursuit of success. That is why this is the most important type of magic if one truly desires to add value to people. You have character – that is a given. But what is the quality of your character? What are your negative character traits? What are your positive character traits? The great thing is, you are in control of your character. Are you willing to work to improve it? When the positive qualities of your character shine through to others, you are sharing your magic.
